Make the work visible before you make it faster

A short note on why process improvement starts with seeing handoffs, queues, and exceptions clearly.

Most teams ask for speed before they can describe the work. That is understandable, but it usually sends the improvement effort toward symptoms: another status meeting, another dashboard, another request for better estimates.

The more useful first move is simpler. Put the work where everyone can see it. Name the handoffs. Mark the waiting. Separate normal work from exceptions. A rough map that people trust is worth more than a polished metric nobody believes.

Once the work is visible, the improvement conversation changes. People stop arguing about who is busy and start deciding which constraints deserve attention.
